It’s hard to say how, exactly, my writing has changed in the past year. Most of the writing I’ve done has been in new, uncharted territory. This past year I put a pause on creating new content and instead have been working on editing my novel, writing blog posts, and buying guides. So, I suppose, if I were to judge how my writing has evolved, I’d have to say it became a lot more technical in nature.<\/p>\n
I’ve learned how to write to fit somebody else’s guidelines. Or rather, I’ve honed that skill from when I was a college student. I’ve learned how to research. I’ve learned that I can only write so many technical articles before I’m ready to snap and give up on writing altogether. I learned from that lesson and resigned from my second job before I did something drastic, because let’s face it, writing is just too much fun to give up on.<\/p>\n
I suppose there have been moments where I’ve written for fun, or at least written fiction. The flash fiction prompts kept me writing. In these prompts I’ve noticed that a lot of my writing tends to have darker subjects than it did in the past. I’m not sure if that’s because it’s easier to keep things short and brief when stories end unhappily, if it is because the writing prompts have been written in such a way as to encourage dark stories, or if my writing style has gravitated to the macabre. I suppose I shall just have to see what the new year brings.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, I plan on dusting off my manuscript and going back over it with a purple pen, much like I was doing this time last year.<\/p>\n
Ideally, my goal for my writing in 2013 is to write more and to hope that every writing project refines who I am as a writer. Well, and maybe to get published. That would be fantastic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
